Hi my name is Tanny, I’m a mindfulness coach and the co-founder of Whole Self Systems. I’ve been practicing mindful meditation for more than 15 years. Born and raised in the Theravada Buddhist tradition, I am grateful for my training with Phra Maha Sakchai Thitamedho of Wat Suddhavasa in Riverside CA, for my academic training in Buddhist Studies at Harvard University, Divinity School, and for the guidance I’m receiving through the Intensive Practice Program from Mindful Awareness Research Center at UCLA .
I want to democratize mindful practice and make it available to anyone who is interested in simplifying their daily lives. Mindful living just means remembering to attend and bring awareness to the present experience. I wake up every morning with the intention to bring mindfulness to moments in my day. Sometimes this is through the traditional mindful sitting meditation, but to be honest, I don’t always have time to dedicate to sit in meditation so, then I just bring mindful practices and incorporate them into my daily activities, like driving in LA traffic or when I’m having conversations with the Barista at the local coffee shop.
Why is it important for me to incorporate mindful practices whenever I can? Because mindfulness has brought more self-awareness, self-acceptance and space to respond to my life rather than recklessly react to situations. This doesn’t mean that I sit in the clouds with my legs crossed with my eyes closed as the world is burning, it just means that I can see more clearly why the world is burning, and a possible solution that can help put the fire out.
